"...but I didn't have a mountain, I had a microphone..."
So, the last 2-3 weeks of my life have been insane. It's been such an extreme rollercoaster of emotions, I can't even begin to describe it. I've ridden WAY high, and also reached pretty low. Oh, just sooooo much is happening these days. Music stuff, financial stuff, personal crap...but all in all, I think it's been a good thing. It's all testing me to see just how bad I really want to persevere, career-wise and as a person. And anyone who knows me, knows that my determination to do what I want to do is pretty damn strong. So, as hard as it's been to look at the lessons to be learned in all of the chaos, I'm trying to keep focused on doing just that, and the rest will work itself out the way it's supposed to
Wel....I've been in the studio a lot these days. It's been incredible!! We are moving forward to what HOPEFULLY will turn out to be a second album, if all goes accordingly. The songs are there, it's just getting it all in the studio, mixed and mastered that's the time-consuming part. But either way, progress is constantly being made and I'm REALLY excited!
I've been a writing fool and I'm extremely proud of the stuff that I'm writing/recording/performing these days. It's awesome to sit back and notice the growth in me vocally and songwriting-wise through all the new stuff that I'm doing now. I always feel like I'm growing, evolving as an artist. And at 21 years old, to sit back and see noticable differences, even in the last few months, is so rewarding and feels like such an achievement! So now I just want to get everything done and recorded and have it available to all of you!!!

the best monday EVER!
My oh my, how things can turn around. I tell ya what... I've never been so glad to see a Monday come b/c it's been purty swell thus far!
I got some really great news today. Don't know how it'll pan out, therefore, I'll be rather vague. But even still, it feels good to get good news. Especially, when you weren't expecting to receive it. 1) I've got some incredible meetings coming up in the next couple weeks! 2) I just got some mighty impressive holds on one of my songs today!!
Life is so funny, so funny.
Just when you start feeling one way, you get blindsided and suddenly, everything's different. It's amazing.
The showcase last week was fun! My band was amazing, the audience was lovin me (thank you for coming out, yay!!), my outfit was rockin! I got the live CD from the show back the other day and it sounds pretty cooool. We posted up a live recording of one of the new songs, "On My Way To You" here on MySpace. Hope you like it! (I was playin some mean tamborine on this baby! Hehe)
Bluebird round the week before was also great. I was represented very well in the sold-out audience we had at that show. Thank you, thank you! Dave was a riot. Rachel's voice blew me away. And Kim mesmorized us with alllllll the hit songs he pulled out for the show! Great night!
(*Pictures from both the showcase and the Bluebird are posted up in my slideshow!*)
Speaking of hit songs... you should go listen to my 'soon to be hit song' (at least, we hope!) on Rachel Proctor's MySpace page. I co-wrote the tune, "Sad Songs" with Rachel and Kim Tribble. Enjoy!
Well, I'm actually heading out for a short vacation. After all the stress with being crazy busy in the studio, cowriting, and then of course...the two big shows last week AND my family being in town... I need a little breather. So I'm headin to Atlanta for a couple days to visit my good friend AND see JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE in concert! Haha. I know, I know, you're jealous
Next up?
Meetings. More co-writing sessions. We are heading into the studio the middle of next month to finish up some brand new recordings we started. Once they're done, you'll be the first to know AND hear! Promise!
My good friend Stewart Harris called me up and invited me to join his late-night round at the Bluebird on Thursday, March 8th. Don't miss me, "Uncle Stew", Dave Gibson, and Jamie Lee Thurston at the Bluebird, 9pm, March 8th!
Well...I'm gonna cap off my good day with the gym and some grocery shopping. Haha. Fun, fun
Love ya!

chocolate hearts couldn't have come at a worse time...
Happy Valentine's Day to those who celebrate it!
For those like myself, who hate on the holiday...happy Wednesday
Things are crazy here. I've had to cancel 3 writing appointments already this week, and I hate doing that. I've been on such a roll so far in 2007 with my writing. My publishers have been thoroughly impressed. But I just feel overwhelmed. Too much is going and I feel like I just don't even have the time to breathe somedays, let alone get ready for these big shows I've got coming up!
My big Bluebird show is tomorrow night. Just found my outfit today. Make-up person's coming an hour before the show... it should be eventful. From what I hear, it's sold out. Which, is fabulous. Lot of industry will be there. My manager's daughter (which is like the older sister I never had) is flying in from Texas tomorrow for the show. Yay! I'm nervous, of course, but I'm sure it'll be great. Rachel P., Dave, and Kim all rock so it's going to be an amazing show!
My showcase is a week from today...thats SEVEN DAYS! AHHHH! I've been sending emails, passing out cards, performing other shows and plugging the 21st... So nerve-wrecking but SO exciting! I've got my set list done. My outfit bought and hanging in my closet. Rehearsels scheduled. I'll be fine. We have SO many people confirmed that they are coming (industry, labels, friends, family is comin from Michigan again). It's humbling and exciting and also...makes my stomach kind of sick. Ha. We'll be debuting some BRAND NEW SONGS at the showcase, as well as at the Bluebird tomorrow night. Yay!
**I'd like to take this opportunity to give a shout-out to the street team of the band, BE YOUR OWN PET, along with the other rock bands that are playing the Rutledge on the 23rd. It's great to see street team SO enthusiastic about their band's own show that they plastered their flyers on EVERY pole on Music Row AND...oh yes, AND...you guys don't even mind covering other band's flyers (*cough MINE cough*), even though these other flyers were oh-so courteous as to not cover yours. Either way, have a great show, fellas.**
Okay, now that that's taken care of... haha.
I'd like to congratulate my girls, the Dixie Chicks on kickin **** and takin names at the Grammy's the other night!
Well, I'm off to the studio to record backgrounds on a new song I just wrote with Rachel Proctor and Kim Tribble. If you come out to one of the shows, you just might hear it for yourself... *hint hint*
Love yall!
Keep warm!

a change in plans for Feb. 15th
So, as you know, I've been mucho excited about my round with Bekka, Lisa, and Shelly next month. However, due to newly arised scheduling conflicts, it looks as though the show is not going to pan out for Feb. 15th like hoped. That's the music biz for ya... HOWEVER, don't get too disappointed yet! That line-up of a round is just postponed and we'll be rescheduling it soon as we can! So keep checking back...
And to tie you over, I've called some fabulous friends of mine to help me out to make sure that there is STILL a dynamite round for you on the 15th. So on Thursday, February 15th starting at 9PM at the Bluebird cafe in Nashville, I will be joined by;
Dave Berg- (#1 hits "Somebody"-Reba McEntire, "If You're Going Through Hell"-Rodney Atkins, and the soon to be #1 smash "Stupid Boy"-Keith Urban)
Rachel Proctor- (co-wrote the Martina McBride hit single "Where Would You Be". Rachel's BNA Records debut album "Where I Belong" debuted at #8 on the Billboard Country Albums chart back in 2003 and produced the hit single, "Me and Emily".)
Kim Williams- (one of Nashville's most loved and respected songwriters with #1 singles for Garth Brooks such as "Papa Loved Mama" and "Ain't Goin Down (Til the Sun Comes Up)" as well as the hit singles "Pickin Wildflowers"-Keith Anderson and "Three Wooden Crosses"-Randy Travis...among countless others!!)
Again, make sure to contact the Bluebird Cafe in advance for reservations at 615-383-1461 .
This show is sure to sell out quickly!!

Hello all and welcome to 2007. Can you believe it? A New Year already?! Like most of you, 2006 had it's ups and downs and some moments of unbelievable gratification but I was glad to see it go. I was talking with one of my friends the other night and I don't know what it is about a new year...but it's empowering. Nothing really changes. I'm still singing and writing. I still live in the same place. My family, my friends, my dogs...all still the same. But even still, for some reason 2007 just seems like 'THE YEAR'. It's like I got to say goodbye and shut the door to anything that was holding me back last year. In some regards, it's a re-do. Granted, I ended 2006 on the highest of notes (new house, new doggie, kick-**** showcase) but I'm up for the challenge of making this year the best year yet! I'm ready to dominate this thing and take over in the '07, baby! It's ours for the taking
I didn't really make any New Year's resolutions or anything. All the general resolutions that people make, I try to be conscious of anyway. (Example: work out, lose weight, eat healther, save money, GET A FREAKING RECORD DEAL! And so on... haha) I spent my New Year's at a 70's-themed show here in town. It was amazing! My friends and I dressed up totally disco-fabulous and danced the night away to local bands playing 70's covers.
Christmas was good. Went to Michigan with my two pups in tow to visit my family. My siblings are growing up so fast, it's scary! I'm the oldest of four and they all completely surpass me now in height. Ugh. How is it that I'm the shortest person ever in my family? Everybody swears that I'm shrinking! I enjoy traveling to Michigan to spend time with the sibs though. They keep me up to date. My sisters and I have decided that our theme song is "Irreplaceable" by Beyonce. I swear, it's the anthem for all women! Why the hell didn't I write that song? Seriously. It was the perfect song to start my 2007 lol.
I've got a bunch of writing appointments set up this month and I've also been doing a lot of writing on my own. I love writing in my lil house! We head back into the studio at the very beginning of February to start recording on our new project! Followed by a photo shoot by spring. We are hoping to book another showcase here in Nashville in late February or early March too! It's a re-launch of 'Rachel Williams'. YAY!
And as you can see from my MySpace page...I have a HUGE show coming up on February 15th at the Bluebird Cafe! It's my dream writer's round and I couldn't be more excited about it! Me, Bekka Bramlett, Lisa Carver, and Shelly Fairchild. These women are so inspiring to me. They are exactly the type of artists that I look up to for my own career---real, gutsy, SOULFUL, raw, original...I mean, it's SO refreshing to be amongst other ladies, that like myself, don't care to conform to whatever is the 'flavor of the month'. They don't care if it's commerical or if it offends somebody or if it makes them a million dollars... it's just good, honest, music. It was my writer's round to put together and I'm still in awe that they all agreed to do it with me! Seriously guys, I am beyond stoked for this show! So mark your calendars for Feb. 15th!
Other than that...
I'm tired and I feel the urge to go home early and watch me some "Sex & the City". Haha. Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday season. Now let's par-tay in the '07!!
Nothin but love,
Rachel
